Who is responsible for your data

Which personal data we process
- Photos you send, which may show you, other people or animals.
- Your name and contact details: phone number, email address and, where relevant, WhatsApp profile name.
- The content of your messages, such as the style, occasion and text for the cartoon.
- Stories and details you share for an animated cartoon video or a custom comic book, such as memories of your pet, family or loved one.
- Payment details: when you pay via Tikkie, De Cartoonist sees only your name, the amount and the payment status.
Photos and stories for an animated cartoon video or a custom comic book are processed in exactly the same way as photos for a single cartoon: only to make and deliver your order, and deleted on the same terms.
Only send photos of other people if they, or for minors their parent or guardian, have given permission.
Why we use it and on what legal basis
- Making and delivering your cartoon — necessary to perform the agreement (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- Answering your questions before an order — steps taken at your request before entering into an agreement (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- Bookkeeping — legal obligation to keep financial records (Article 6(1)(c) GDPR).
- Showing a cartoon as an example — only with your explicit consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time.
WhatsApp and email as communication channels
Photos and messages reach us via WhatsApp or email. These services are provided by third parties with their own privacy policies; WhatsApp is operated by Meta. By choosing one of these channels you share your data through that service. If you prefer, you can always choose email instead of WhatsApp, or the other way round.
Payment via Tikkie
Payment is made in advance via a Tikkie payment request that you receive on WhatsApp, and you pay with iDEAL. Tikkie is a service of ABN AMRO, which processes the payment under its own privacy policy. De Cartoonist only sees your name, the amount and whether the payment has been made, and does not store your bank account details beyond what the bookkeeping requires (seven years).
How long we keep your photos and data
Photos you send, and the stories you share for a video or comic book, are deleted no later than three months after delivery, unless you ask for them to be kept longer, for example for a follow-up order.
The finished cartoon, video or comic book may be kept for the same period so a lost file can be sent again, unless you ask for earlier deletion. Payment records needed for the bookkeeping are kept for seven years, because Dutch tax law requires this; no other bank details are stored.
Cookies, tracking and sharing
- This website does not use tracking or advertising cookies.
- Your data is never sold.
- Data is only shared with parties needed to run the service, such as the email provider, hosting provider, ABN AMRO for Tikkie payments and the accountant, or when the law requires it.
Your rights and how to complain
You have the right to access, correct and delete your personal data, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability and to withdraw consent. Send your request to info@decartoonist.com; you will receive a response within the legal term of one month.
If you are not satisfied with how your data is handled, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) or the supervisory authority in your own country.

Does De Cartoonist use tracking or advertising cookies?
No, the website of De Cartoonist does not use tracking or advertising cookies. Visiting the site does not build a profile of you for advertisers.
